#LSBride Anita shares her and Ricky’s love story as well go to places for date nights as an engaged couple in Metro Detroit.

Meeting Anita and her family was the highlight of our Michigan Team’s week when she found “The One”. After hearing her engagement story we just had to share. How did the super cute couple first meet? While attending Anita’s BFF Megan’s 21st birthday party in Novi at 29th and Park. As much as we wanted to retell the story on our words, we couldn’t beat how Anita described it. So for all those romantics and brides-to-be out there, enjoy!

Q: Was it Love at First Sight?

A: When I first met Ricky, he actually came right up to me and started a conversation. I know I felt a little shy, but also flattered that such a handsome guy was approaching me. I just remember thinking to myself, “Is this guy really trying to have a conversation at this club right now!?” Haha, I honestly was just wishing the music wasn’t so loud so that we could actually hear each other. Considering the loud-party atmosphere, I can’t say that it was “love” at first sight, but definitely attraction at first site, and I wanted to know more. He didn’t end up asking for my number at the bar (which I was kind of bummed about), but instead a couple days after, my friend Megan called me and basically told me he was super interested and wanted to know if it was okay that she gave him my number. I figured, sure why not! He didn’t really waste much time, as he called me shortly after and asked to take me on a date. The more and more we hung out, the more we built our connection.

Q: You mentioned that you guys skipped friend zone and went right into dating. What makes you guys click? What do you guys share in common?

A: I felt like we  were never in the “friend zone” because he wanted to take me out on very formal dates from the get-go and always had little ways to surprise me. No man had ever been that sweet and genuine towards me.

I think what initially interested me in Ricky was that he was a very, very positive and loving person. In the beginning, I almost thought it was almost odd how sweet and polite he was, but I soon realized that he was just genuinely a good person, and I would be a very lucky girl one day.

Q: So Ricky proposed at Campus Martius, was this before or after the work party you mentioned? When he asked – Was it a surprise? What did you feel? We all want the juicy details 😉

A: So Ricky had told me from months prior that we were going to his work Christmas Party brunch that day. We arrived in Downtown Detroit a little earlier than from when the “Christmas party” was supposed to start, so he suggested that we tried ice skating at Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit. I absolutely hate the cold and had never gone ice skating before. But he insisted.

anita-engagement-03I remember it was just another freezing day in Detroit. We rented our skates, and headed to the rink. We did one lap around the rink, and then he slipped and fell, bringing me down with him (later I found out that he planned that fall). As I stood up from the ice, he stayed down kneeling on one knee. I remember that he kept it short and sweet. And I said “Yes” very quickly…after saying “are you serious right now?” about 10 times. My legs were shaking so bad–both from being so cold and being in shock. I remember looking up and seeing crowds of people with their phones in the air trying to capture what was going on. I couldn’t believe that even the workers at the rink were in on the plan too.

When I spotted my sister, Angie and best friend, Stacey, that was when I lost it. It meant everything to me that they were there. As we skated towards the exit of the rink, Ricky said to me, “By the way, we have a big party tonight!” The first thing I said was “Wait, what? I don’t have anything to wear.” He said, “Nope-it’s all taken care of. Your sister already got a dress for you, and she made you a makeup appointment. You have all day to get ready.” Later on at night, the proposal party was held at Huerto Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar, in their banquet room. All of our family and friends, some who even traveled out of state, came to surprise us! This was a complete, 100% surprise. I had no idea this was even in the near future, as I am still finishing up my master’s, and was convinced he was going to wait until after I was done with school to propose.

Planning Advice

I think the best advice to give to a bride is have at least one date night a month with your fiancé and make one rule: NO wedding talk. I feel that sometimes couples get wrapped up in the wedding planning and the opinions of family and friends, that its easy to steer away from the importance of the actual wedding and unity of two families coming together. Not to mention, it’s important to not allow wedding planning to cause bickering and arguments because its not worth it, trust me. Always make time for girlfriends, and never make your fiance feel bad for wanting to hang out with the guys. Your friends and family are golden, so don’t allow stress to hinder any relationships!

Date Night Advice

There are a ton of great restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. Ricky and I always love walking through downtown Detroit in the summer time-near Campus Martius where they have the beach, and food trucks set up. Other great food spots downtown are Michael Simon Roast, Seldon Standard and Punch Bowl Social (also fun for bowling). Downtown Birmingham is great as well, as you can always head down early before dinner and walk through the park, stop at a few shops, etc. Cafe Via, 220 Merril, Social Kitchen and Bar, and Toast are some of our favorite restaurants there. If you’re in the mood for authentic Italian food, Trattoria (inside Cantoro Italian Market) in Plymouth is amazing. But honestly, staying in and just cooking together, watching a movie and just relaxing is one of my favorite things to do as well. Date night doesn’t always have to be super extravagant–sometimes keeping it simple is better :)

Le Salon Julie Vino Bride 2016

I could not be more excited, happy and honored to be a Le Salon bride! From the moment I walked in the first time I visited Le Salon, Alexis and Sarah were so warm, honest and helpful. It was a very personal and unique experience, unlike any other bridal shop in Michigan–and trust me when I say I went to many. As cliche as it sounds, I felt really special–as if I were the only bride they were working with.

The whole Le Salon team really worked with my budget and helped bring my vision to life. They are amazing at communication (phone, e-mail, text) and working with my schedule for appointments. I had many friends and family who came with me to look at dresses, and they were always welcoming and sweet, which was important to me. I cannot express how excited I am to continue working with the Le Salon crew!
