Ohh hey Nicholas Sparks, we found a romance for your next book. Kathy and Alex are a love story that will simply melt any hopeless romantics heart.

Q: How Did They Meet?

A: Kathy and Alex grew up together right here in Valparaiso.  When they were young, the pair knew each other, but not well. That all changed in high school!  When they were 16 the couple officially started dating.  The two danced their way through various homecomings and proms, learned to drive, and graduated.
Don’t get us wrong, it was no walk in the park.  Kathy found herself at a university in Indiana while Alex spent his college days in Boston, but you know what they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.  Despite the fact that the couple was roughly 1,000 miles away from each other (999.6 to be exact), their love grew and the distance brought them together as even closer best friends, if that is even possible!  Graduation approached and the two were more than thrilled to find that they would both be ending up in Chicago, Alex as a business consultant, and Kathy in advertising and grad school.

Q: How Did He Propose?

A: A surprise proposal?  My favorite!  Kathy had a feeling that her boyfriend of 10 years might pop the question, but she had no clue when or where.  She thought she’d know exactly when Alex was going to get down on one knee and ask the question but the sneaky groom caught our bride off guard!  We mentioned hopeless romance right?  Sweet Alex guided our bride-to-be into his home just like any other day.  Bewildered, Kathy found herself suddenly surrounded by flowers and candlelight – the moment captured by a hidden camera he had setup right before. Of course she said Yes! Afterwards – the newly engaged couple went to eat a luxurious dinner. Kathy jokes that he proposed on Cinco De Mayo because that was the only way they could ever get a spot in the place!

Just as their love started in Valparaiso, Kathy and Alex plan on starting their life off together as husband and wife in the charming town.  For starters, the ceremony will take place at the awe-worthy Valparaiso University Chapel.   As for the reception hall?  None other than renowned Strongbow, known for its exceptional catering and classy decor . What an honor it was when Kathy exclaimed how wonderful it was to find the gown of her dreams in her hometown.  To her, it was just another sweet memory to add to her Valpo experience. Kathy can’t wait to start her life as Alex’s wife.

Long Distance Advice
……………………………….……………………………….………………….

  1. Call each other on the phone or skype—skip the texting! Make your conversations as personable as possible. Plus it avoids the risk of misunderstanding a text message. On the same note, call each other at different times of the day; avoid getting into a routine and daily ritual because that can get boring.
  1. Pick your battles. Don’t get mad over every little thing because you’ll drive yourself crazy. You don’t want to turn every conversation you have into an argument or a questioning session.
  1. Always have a date to look forward to. Knowing exactly when you’ll see each other again makes the days/weeks go by much easier.
  1. Trust! Without trust a long distance relationship is pretty much impossible. You have to understand that your significant other will have a life outside of your relationship and that is ok.
  1. Stay away from social media as much as possible. You will drive yourself crazy trying to “read into” every picture you see or figure out the context in which it was taken.
  1. Send handwritten cards/surprise packages. I am a sucker for snail mail! Nothing is sweeter to me than opening up my mailbox and seeing a self addressed letter to me.

Le Salon Bridal Shop Experience – Indiana

I recently purchased my wedding dress from Le Salon in Valparaiso and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! I went to one other place prior to Le Salon, and Le Salon was by far a more positive experience! I was able to purchase it right off the rack and take it home with me that same day. My consultant, Eryn, was wonderful and made me feel extremely comfortable and special. I can’t wait to schedule my appointment to pick out bridesmaid dresses!
