Le Salon stylists know what’s trending in the bridal world.  Knowing what’s in and what’s out is kind of an obsession of ours, so we’re always paying attention to the looks brides love and study up on the designers they’re filling up their bridal binders with – especially if it’s a designer we don’t carry.

This week, brides are gushing over the sophisticated designs of Monique Lhuillier, whose wedding gowns are pure fantasy (and red carpet worthy!) Spotted on famous fashionistas like Heidi Klum, Blake Lively, Zooey Deschanel, and Eva Longoria – it’s hard not feel like a star in a Monique Lhuillier original.  Many brides are choosing to say “I Do” in her popular bridal looks, following the lead of  celebrity brides like Reese Witherspoon, Carrie Underwood, and Britney Spears.  To find a Monique Lhuillier dress in Michigan, head to Roma Sposa, one of our fellow bridal shops in Birmingham, Michigan (MI).

Fun Fact

Monique has tapped into her Filipina roots to bring us the intricate, hand-woven laces we’re swooning over.  For the frugal bride, Monique Lhuillier also has a bridal line called “Bliss,” – a collection of more affordable couture.  Monique Lhuillier has had a lot of time to develop her aesthetic and hone her talents; after all, she’s been designing since she was eleven.  Now that’s what I call a life-long passion for fashion!

GOING FOR THIS LOOK? STYLIST RECOMMENDS …

Monique Lhuillier definitely designs some beautiful bridal looks, but before you commit to your one and only wedding dress, we’d challenge you to do some comparison shopping.  After all, waking up in the middle of the night to the realization that you bought the wrong dress is every woman’s worst “bridesmare!”  Before settling for the first designer you’ve tried on, remember that Le Salon’s designers have created similar couture styles, with a slightly different take .  Try each designer’s version of your favorite bridal style – you might be surprised what you fall in love with!

Long Sleeve Lace  Monique Lhuillier’s lace looks gorgeous on long sleeves, but Rosa Clara offers a softer look with more delicate lace, a scalloped neckline, and a light flowing skirt.
Lace Corsette, Satin Skirt  Monique Lhuillier’s textured lace corsette is stunning next to a smooth satin skirt, but Wtoo’s strapless lace corsette is the better option for a bride trying to nail the perfect combination of sexy and sweet.

Lace Bodice and Hem, A-Line  It’s hard to spot the difference here between Junko Yoshioka and Monique Lhuillier’s A-Line and lace-lined dresses, and in person, it’s near impossible.  The dresses are practically identical, except for the ribbon sash that Monique Lhuillier has added to the waist of hers.  Now before you let a little bling sway you into spending way more money than you need to, don’t forget that a sash can be added to any dress – whether you love the simple satin ribbon look or prefer your sashes dripping with crystals.

Lace V-Neck, Satin Skirt with Pickups  This is a great example of how differently two designers can interpret the same style idea.  Monique Lhuillier’s dress sticks to the classic halter, whereas St. Pucci amped up the look for a little added mystery.  Is it a halter?  Is it a bolero?  Does it have cap sleeves?  St. Pucci’s couture look is a fusion all it’s own, and much harder to slap a label on.
