Sarah and Wilson met as children, tumbling head over velcro-sneakers in young love on the playgrounds of Hong Kong, as their mothers looked on, smilingly, knowingly.
(Just as a disclaimer: you might want to grab some tissues before you proceed – in fact, take a minute to do that right now, then we’ll resume.)
When Wilson’s family moved across the sea to America soon after, the pair didn’t see one another again for over 20 years, but Sarah never forgot about Wilson. “When we reunited, he looked exactly the way I had imagined and had a smile that almost made me pass out,” said Sarah, with an equally dazzling smile. Wilson, too, never could quite get Sarah out of his mind, confessing that despite the many years since they’d spoken, “every one in awhile I would miss her…”
Sarah was living in London, studying fashion design, when fate (finally!) stepped in. After getting wind that one of his brothers was getting married, Sarah asked her mother for Wilson’s number to send him a congratulatory text message. Wilson was stunned. “Without realizing it, a small part of me always thought of her as the perfect girl. Imagine my surprise when one day, after 23 years of silence, I finally got to talk to her, albeit electronically,” he said. “I knew I had probably put her on a pedestal, but getting to know her better I realized that I could never imagine how great she really was…”
Sarah and Wilson kept catching up via. text, and Sarah knew she had to see him again. Before she had the chance, Wilson arrived in London looking positively dapper in a suit and holding a bouquet of fresh blooms. “I knew that with each passing day it was a missed opportunity to meet her and make my life complete,” he said. “The realization came 10 minutes before I bought a ticket for a long ride to a country I’d never been to, to see a girl I hadn’t met in all those years.”
As Sarah showed Wilson around the city, the two rekindled the spark they’d felt as children. Sarah was enamored. Wilson wasted no timing getting in touch with a jeweler. Just a few months later, Wilson boarded another plane to London to ask Sarah to make him the happiest man on earth, and of course, she gave him an ecstatic yes. “I know this sounds cheesy, but I really felt that he was The One the moment I met him again,” she said. “It was as if he just appeared out of nowhere and all I could think about was how lucky I was that he found a way back into my life.”
