Vendor Feature & Interview with Melissa Marshall of Le Roc Salon & Body Bar.
It’s been a crazy and exciting year for Le Salon Indiana! We are moving locations as well as putting on some fabulous events. On such topic, is the upcoming Spa-tacular event with Le Roc Salon and Beauty Bar. One of the talented and charismatic stylists, Melissa Marshall, and I met a local coffee shop that just happens to be my favorite – Blackbird Cafe 😉
I never thought planning for an event could be so fun! I loved talking to Melissa about it all and of course, I had to know more about her and her career. When I asked Melissa if she’d be willing to do a feature she said “Of Course!”

Brittany: Why a makeup artist? How did you get started?
Melissa: Makeup has always been a part of my life, in some regard. I grew up in ballet and I was very inspired by theatrical and stage makeup, and studied that in college as well. It wasn’t until 2001, when I had my first job at a makeup boutique, that I realized I could make a career out of doing makeup, and I never looked back. I don’t consider my work to be “work” at all. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with women, brides, prom-goers, etc. and being a part of their special occasions. The wedding industry, specifically, is very rewarding. I love spending every weekend with brides and their bridal parties getting them ready for what is destined to be one of the happiest days of their lives.
B: What drives you? What is your favorite part?
M: I am driven 110% by my clients. I have received some thank you notes that have moved me to tears. Makeup, in general, can be a very superficial thing, it just washes down the drain at the end of the night, but it also has the power to transform. I have personally watched women’s self esteem and confidence soar when they have their makeup done. My favorite moment is when I hand my client a mirror and their eyes light up, their mouth drops open, and they truly love the way they look. I live for that moment!
B: Why do you think you have been so successful in the competitive business? What brings clients back?
M: I think it comes down to how one defines success. I consider myself to be successful because I have turned my hobby and passion into a full time career. I also consider myself to be successful because I have made so many amazing friends through the wedding industry and my clients. Success is such a relative term. I may not live in a mansion, or drive a fancy car, but I spend every day making people feel good about themselves, and I feel really good about that. I think that’s why clients return, they know how much I love what I do.
B: The most important thing to you as a makeup artist is?
M: The most important thing to me as a makeup artist, is to constantly grow, learn, and perfect my craft. I take workshops all year long, from makeup artists that I admire, to be a better artist. I always want to be the best I can be for my clients.
B: What is it that makes Le Roc Salon & Body Bar so unique and different?
M: Le Roc is a great salon to work for. I love that it’s literally a one-stop-beauty-shop for my clients. We have everything from facials, massage, hair extensions, lash extensions, makeup, plus a full range of hair services. For our bridal clients, we have a growing team of hairstylists and makeup artists who love working weddings. We have weekends where we are servicing up to 6 weddings on the same day. Unlike most local salons, we provide our services both in salon and on location, which is great because our brides are located everywhere from Chicago to Southwest Michigan, and everywhere in Northwest Indiana. It really is convenient for brides to have the luxury of on-location services, so they can wake up in their home, hotel room, or bridal suite, and have the beauty services come to them. It really helps cut down on wedding morning stress. Right now, I don’t know of many (or any) other local salons that offer an on-location team of stylists.
B: When looking for a salon, why did you pick Le Roc?
M: I’ve always loved being a part of a team. When I was ready to take my career in a new direction, I didn’t really “look” for a salon to join, I just knew I wanted to be a part of the Le Roc team. I met with the owner and discussed the vision for the Le Roc on Location team and my passion for the wedding industry, and it was just a natural fit.
B: Aside from Brides and Weddings, what other makeup services do you offer?
M: While most of my Saturdays are committed to brides and weddings, I am also available for makeup for prom, photo shoots, and special occasions. I love any opportunity to help women feel beautiful, and no occasion is too big or too small for that. In additional to makeup application, I also offer private lessons at the salon, to teach women how to do their own makeup using our product line, Le Roc Cosmetics.
